Netflix’s New Take on a Beloved Classic

Netflix’s announcement of a new adaptation of “Little House on the Prairie” has stirred up a whirlwind of emotions among fans of the beloved series. Alison Arngrim, who played the infamous Nellie Oleson in the original show, has stepped forward to address the mixed reactions and provide insight into the upcoming project.

“People are like, ‘Oh my God, yay, a reboot. It’s the greatest thing that ever happened. The second coming.’ Or [they say], ‘No, no, no, not a reboot. The show is perfect. Don’t touch it.’ And they’re getting upset about it,” Alison Arngrim said.

Arngrim emphasized in recent interviews that the new adaptation is not a mere recreation of the 1970s television series. Instead, it aims to delve deeper into Laura Ingalls Wilder’s original books, focusing on the early years of Laura’s life and the challenges of frontier living.

“They’re going back to the books – they’re going back to the beginning. They’re still hiring directors and everything. It’s still very, very early, but they’re looking into the first books when Laura is a very tiny girl. They’re going back to their roots,” Arngrim added.

While fans of the original series may be concerned about changes to their beloved classic, both Arngrim and fellow cast member Dean Butler assured that the new adaptation will respect the source material. Trip Friendly, son of the original producer and executive producer of the Netflix project, is committed to maintaining the integrity of the stories.

“It’s never going to be what Michael did. Michael was Michael. He was a unique creative presence with this magical touch with an audience. And look, the creative team on the new show may also have a magical touch with an audience, but it’s a different touch and it will be different,” Butler said

As Netflix moves forward with this ambitious project, fans can expect a fresh take on the beloved stories.

But many are unhappy that it’s even being touched to begin with. After all…it seems as though Netflix and other streaming platforms have leaned heavily on changing and adapting classics rather than creating exciting new content.

While the original cast members won’t be returning in their previous roles, Arngrim has expressed openness to a potential cameo. The new series promises to blend family drama, survival tales, and the origin story of the American West, offering both nostalgia and novelty to viewers.
