Celeb Writer Writes Op-Ed Endorsing Mitt Romney as Democrat Nominee

West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin wrote an op-ed suggesting Democrats choose a Republican to replace President Biden in this year’s election. Sorkin suggested Utah Senator Mitt Romney would fit the bill and would prove that the election is “about stopping a deranged man from taking power.” Hours later, however, Mr. Sorkin changed his mind and threw his weight behind Vice President Kamala Harris. “I take it all back. Harris for America!” he tweeted.

The President stunned voters by withdrawing from the race, saying it was in America’s interests. Biden immediately endorsed Kamala Harris, prompting the Vice President to say she was “honored” and would do all she could to unite the party against Donald Trump.

Ms. Harris also mentioned the controversial Project 2025 document the conservative Heritage Foundation devised. It proposes radical change under a new conservative administration, including a sweep of the civil service and robust anti-abortion policies. Donald Trump has distanced himself from the blueprint, but commentators suggest it will supply a weapon for Democrats who accuse Trump and his VP pick, JD Vance, of holding outdated views.

Donald Trump returned to the campaign trail on July 20 with a rally in Michigan and again denied any support for Project 2025. He was joined by Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance, whose opinions have come under intense media scrutiny since he formally accepted the nomination at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Critics accuse Vance of encouraging women to remain in violent marriages, but he denies this. His opposition to abortion is also in the spotlight, but the Ohio Senator insisted he agrees with Donald Trump that there must be exceptions for rape or incest and that decisions on abortion should be left in the hands of individual states.

The Michigan rally was Trump’s first since he narrowly avoided assassination in Pennsylvania. He told a roaring crowd that he was ready to take back the White House and that he “took a bullet for democracy.”
