Conan O’Brien Shares Why He Refused to Appear On Lisa Kudrow’s Show

Recently, renowned late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien was featured on the NBC show Who Do You Think You Are? The documentary-style show is about celebrities tracing their family lineage through historians as well as traveling to their family’s origin locations. The show is an Americanized version of the BBC show with the same title and is executive produced by Friends actress Lisa Kudrow. In a recent podcast interview, O’Brien reflected on his appearance on the show and revealed that he did not have that great of an experience during the episode’s filming.

On Monday, O’Brien’s internet podcast series Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend uploaded a new episode featuring Rashida Jones, a well-known actress, director, and the daughter of famous record producer Quincy Jones. During the episode, Jones and O’Brien discussed tracing their families’ heritage where the topic of the genealogy documentary show was brought up. Ironically, Jones had also been featured on the show, which prompted further discussion between the two.

Jones revealed that she had a “super intense” experience during her time on the NBC show, as O’Brien claimed he felt the exact opposite. O’Brien explained that he did not have a great time on the show, however, the talk show host explained that it was no one’s fault that he felt that way. O’Brien further explained that the show finds out about their guests’ heritage before they do, which O’Brien revealed he only knew of his ancestors as being horse thieves in Ireland, to which the show’s executive producer Kudrow persisted that there was more history for O’Brien to find.

Further into the interview, O’Brien revealed that he had submitted his DNA to the show for further research, to which not much history other than what O’Brien had already known was found. Humorously, Jones told O’Brien that the reason nothing was found in his heritage was that the talk show host was truly, “one of a kind”.
