California Governor Gavin Newsom’s presidential aspirations may have hit a snag after he was caught in an apparent lie about the term “LatinX.” The progressive Democrat claimed he’s never used the controversial gender-neutral term, but internet sleuths quickly unearthed evidence proving otherwise.
At a glance:
• Newsom claimed no one in his office has ever used the term “LatinX,” contradicted by his own social media
• The California Governor appeared on conservative Charlie Kirk’s podcast in an apparent attempt to rebrand as moderate
• Newsom agreed with Kirk that transgender athletes competing in women’s sports is “deeply unfair”
• He also criticized pronoun introductions, questioning why it’s “the biggest issue”
• The governor is positioning himself as a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate
Newsom Caught Fibbing About “LatinX” Usage
During a recent appearance on conservative influencer Charlie Kirk’s podcast, Governor Gavin Newsom attempted to distance himself from Woke language – and got exposed in doing so. The California Democrat claimed, “not one person ever in my office has ever used the word Latinx,” questioning, “Where did that even come from?”
Turns out, though, that he…did.
Internet users quickly proved Newsom’s statement false by digging up multiple instances where the Governor or his office had indeed used the term. His apparent attempt to rebrand himself as more moderate comes as many speculate he’s positioning for a 2028 presidential run.
Breaking With Party On Trans Issues
Newsom made additional statements during the podcast that signal a distinct break from progressive Democrat positions. When discussing transgender athletes in women’s sports, the Governor surprisingly agreed with Kirk’s conservative position.
“I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you. It is deeply unfair… That’s easy to call out, the unfairness of that,” Newsom said, contradicting the position held by many in his party who support allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports.
The Governor also criticized pronoun introductions, stating: “I had one meeting where people started going around the table with the pronouns. I’m like: ‘What the hell? Why is this the biggest issue?'”
All of a sudden he’s changed his mind?
Political Calculating While California Struggles
Political observers note Newsom’s apparent pivot comes as he attempts to position himself as a leader within the Democratic Party following Kamala Harris’ election loss – and as a potential 2028 presidential candidate. You know, because he didn’t end up replacing Joe Biden last time like he hoped he would…
The Governor’s recent engagement with conservative media looks to be a strategic shift to broaden his appeal beyond his progressive base. California continues to struggle with some of the nation’s highest tax rates and unemployment, while thousands of residents flee the state annually for more affordable living conditions, but Newsom thinks he’s the savior.
