Kari Lake has officially won the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in Arizona and has since thanked former President Donald Trump for his endorsement. Lake is a former newscaster who lost the race for Arizona governor narrowly to Katie Hobbs in 2022 amidst speculation of election fraud. Lake also supported Trump in his 2020 effort for president and suggested the election was stolen by the Democrats and Joe Biden. After she won the Republican nomination, she told her audience that they all share a common hero in Donald Trump.
Lake thanked Trump for his endorsement, his friendship, advice, support, and strength. She added that the former president is literally “bulletproof.” Lake received 53% of the vote in the primary over her Republican challenger Mark Lamb, who received only 40%. She will face Ruben Gallego in the November general election to replace incumbent Krysten Sinema, a former Democrat and current independent who is not seeking re-election.
During her victory speech, Lake stressed that Trump will need support in Washington to get things accomplished and said she would be one of the Senators providing backup to President Trump. Challenger Gallego said he plans to protect abortion rights, reduce costs for families, support veterans, and protect the water supply for citizens of Arizona. Gallego called for support from voters on all sides of the political spectrum to defeat Kari Lake and her plan to ban abortion.
Lake said that Republicans, Democrats, and independents all share similar goals to have excellent education for the children, a secure border, and safe neighborhoods. Lake added that anybody who thinks this is a battle between political parties is listening to the “fake news” too much. She said that the election is actually a battle between good and evil while drawing distinctions between the people who support America First policies and those who want to destroy the country.
A poll from July 22-23 found that Gallego has a four point advantage over Lake with a 3.4 point margin of error.
