Legal Immigrant Declares Support for Trump, Regrets Voting for Biden

The political climate in the United States is increasingly volatile. The former 45th president Donald Trump is locked in a tight presidential contest with the incumbent commander-in-chief Joe Biden. It appears that Biden and Trump are very close in many national polls, and the election will likely be decided by a handful of swing states. In recent polls reported by the Hill, Trump is ahead in many polls in crucial swing states by a very narrow cluster of points. Following the first presidential debate on June 27th, Trump appeared to gain some momentum politically speaking after performing markedly better than Joe Biden. Biden appeared incoherent in many instances during the debate, struggling to answer questions. Following this, Biden faced political headwinds from members of his party who called for him to drop out of the presidential race.

On July 13th, tragedy almost struck when a 20-year-old gunman almost assassinated Trump. Thomas Matthew Crooks used his father’s AR-15 rifle and climbed atop a building several hundred yards away from the Trump rally when the former president was speaking. He opened fire, narrowly missing Trump who just happened to move his head ever so slightly before shots rang out. The bullet grazed his ear.

The Republican National Convention began in Milwaukee on Monday, July 15th. J.D. Vance, a political flip-flopper with a lengthy history of criticizing Trump, was chosen as a surprise Vice Presidential pick. Many Republicans had hoped that Trump would have chosen a moderate party member or an individual who would broaden the ticket demographically by appealing to Hispanic and black voters. Trump seems to think Vance will help him win the Rust Belt, although many question exactly how. The race will be close, and every vote is precious- one legal immigrant named Linda Fonos spoke at the RNC on Monday evening, claiming that while she voted for Biden in 2020, she regretted it and will now support Trump
