Former First Lady Melania Trump is organizing a fundraising event with the gay conservative group Log Cabin Republicans. The event, which will be held in July at Trump Tower in New York City, will be Mrs. Trump’s second with the organization this year.
In April, she hosted Log Cabin Republicans at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, her first political event of 2024. Analysts say the former President’s wife has kept a low profile since leaving the White House and played little part in her husband’s 2024 campaign so far. Melania Trump has also not commented on Donald Trump’s legal battles or appeared in court.
Before the April celebration, Mrs. Trump told reporters that she aimed to help Log Cabin Republicans with their “Road to Victory” campaign, aimed at persuading gay conservatives to go out and vote on November 5. Trump praised American freedoms and called for equal treatment for gay and straight citizens, saying, “We must unite in our effort to establish a society where equality is the everyday experience of every American.”
The organizing committee for the July fundraiser includes Trump administration German Ambassador Richard Grenell, Bill White, former President of the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, and real estate magnate Joseph Moinian. Investor Hannah Buchan will host a post-event reception, and attendees are asked to contribute up to $100,000, which will go toward the Log Cabin “Road to Victory” campaign.
The Log Cabin Republicans group was founded in 1977 to “build a stronger, more inclusive Republican Party.” The organization’s name refers to Abraham Lincoln’s birth in a Kentucky log cabin in 1809 – the President who embodies the kind of GOP the group wants to create. The gay Republicans say Lincoln believed in an America of liberty and equality under the law and that today’s GOP should “return to its roots” and re-establish a Constitutional and freedom-loving United States.
The organization, founded in California, strongly backs Donald Trump, saying he kept his promises to the LGBT community.
