A 22-year-old suspect mercilessly stabbed a woman to death and left her daughter and husband critically injured in Gorton, Manchester.
Reportedly, 43-year-old woman Alberta Obinim grabbed one of her four children and ran towards safety after seeing a violent man attacking her family with a knife. She went into the street and tried to run away from the attacker while also screaming for help in the meantime. Obinim managed to hide her child in the bushes as the attacker approached her and stabbed her to death.
While the investigators are still working to find the motive of the stabbing, they revealed that the suspect knew the family.
The triple-stabbing horror show left the community in visible shock as some of them recalled the dangerous incident in utter disbelief. According to one local, Keelan Sands, he was watching TV in his bedroom when he heard the “piercing screaming” of a woman around 11 pm. Keelan added that he looked into the street from his window and saw police officers helping an injured man who had lost a good amount of blood.
He further stated that the deceased woman rang the alarm when she saw another man being stabbed, but she was herself killed by the suspect, who also attacked another young girl.
The screaming urged many nearby residents to come into the street, which prompted the attacker to leave the scene, just to find himself encircled by the nearby police, which took him into custody.
Another neighbor, Reece, recalled that he and his cousin were present in the car parked in the street when the horror unfolded, and he immediately turned his vehicle towards the attacker to stop him, but the girl was standing in between them.
Other community members and people close to Obinim also came forward to give tribute to the departing soul. Her family friend Ibrahim Abu remembered that Obinim was an honorable member of the local Ghanaian community and always tried to help others.
Another close friend of Obinim, who claimed to have previously worked with her, was distressed by the tragedy and recalled that she spoke with the victim recently. She suggested that Obinim had the tendency to make people laugh and that she always found her company entertaining.
The attacker was also taken to the hospital due to “superficial injuries” and is currently in the custody of mental health professionals.
