Nicaraguan Commie Government Slashes Ties with Israel

Go figure, the communists want nothing to do with the only democracy in the Middle East…

At a glance:

  • Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega cuts diplomatic ties with Israel, accusing Prime Minister Netanyahu of “genocide.”
  • Ortega likens Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler, calling him a “son of the devil” and condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza.
  • Ortega’s regime has close ties with authoritarian nations like Iran, Russia, China, and Venezuela, further isolating Nicaragua from Western influence.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega took drastic steps on Friday by cutting diplomatic ties with Israel in response to the ongoing Gaza conflict. Ortega, who has led Nicaragua’s Sandinista regime for decades, accused Israel of committing “genocide” against the Palestinian people. He described the Israeli government as “fascist” and denounced its military actions against Hamas, a jihadist group responsible for the deadly October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which killed an estimated 1,200 people.

The move to sever ties was requested by Nicaragua’s National Assembly, a government body controlled by Ortega’s regime. The Assembly passed a motion accusing Israel of endangering world peace, claiming that the “fascist and genocidal government of Israel” was acting with the complicity of the United States and European powers. Nicaragua now joins other far-left regimes in the region, such as Cuba and Venezuela, which have similarly taken diplomatic action against Israel in support of Palestine.

Ortega’s decision to break relations with Israel is not unprecedented. He has previously cut ties with the country twice—first during the 1982 Sandinista revolution and again in 2010. Although relations were restored in 2017, Israel has not maintained a permanent ambassador in Nicaragua, signaling a historically tense relationship.

During a public event on Monday, Ortega escalated his condemnation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, comparing him to Adolf Hitler. Ortega went so far as to call Netanyahu the “son of the devil,” accusing him of leading a terror campaign. He also linked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Hitler, accusing him of trying to drag NATO into a war against Russia, a key ally of Nicaragua.

Ortega’s strong anti-Israel stance aligns with Nicaragua’s growing ties to authoritarian nations such as Iran, China, and Russia. These alliances have allowed the regime to receive economic and military support, including loans from China and training for Nicaraguan police from Russia. These relationships have also expanded Chinese influence over Nicaragua’s resources, including its gold, while Russia has reportedly turned a Nicaraguan military base into a key spy center in the region.

Ortega’s rhetoric not only isolates Nicaragua from Western democracies but also strengthens its position among authoritarian regimes. His regime’s ties with countries like Cuba and Venezuela continue to grow stronger as these nations collectively oppose Western powers and align themselves with Palestine amid the ongoing Gaza conflict.
