Outrage After Florida Cop Uses Excessive Force on 15-Year-Old Girl

A Florida high school student and her family are accusing police of excessive force after a video surfaced showing an officer slamming the 15-year-old girl to the ground. Ikeria Tate, a student at Miami Edison High School, was involved in an altercation following a football game on Wednesday, where a fight broke out involving students and parents outside the school’s locker rooms.

According to the video shared on social media, a Miami-Dade Schools Police officer is seen grabbing Tate by the shoulders and flipping her to the ground. Tate claims she did not attempt to hit the officer but was trying to get him off her when the situation escalated. The footage shows her getting back on her feet before the officer grabbed her again by her hair.

Tate’s mother, Monique Warner, has condemned the officer’s actions, stating he used excessive force. “He shouldn’t have done that to my child. If anything, you should’ve tried to restrain her in a better way,” Warner said. She also expressed concern over how police officers handle situations involving students, noting that incidents like these contribute to the fear young people have of law enforcement.

Miami-Dade Schools Police, however, reported that Tate had pushed a responding sergeant and attempted to strike the officer, leading to her arrest. She now faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and disrupting a school function. Tate is currently on home detention with restrictions that only allow her to leave for school, medical reasons, or emergencies.

The incident is currently under investigation by Miami-Dade Schools Police.
