Schumer Advises Trump to Drop JD Vance from GOP Ticket

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has advised Donald Trump to drop his controversial running mate, JD Vance. The senior Democrat made the remarks during a recent media interview, during which he also praised President Biden and Kamala Harris, and stated that they had a “great, great record.”

When asked about the former President’s Vice Presidential pick, Mr. Schumer said the Republican ticket is one of extremism, which the Ohio Senator’s inclusion has exacerbated. Schumer argued that the notorious Project 2025, produced by the conservative Heritage Foundation, provided evidence that Trump and Vance would remove women’s rights should they win power in November. He added that working people would also lose rights, and only the “very wealthy” would benefit.

Discussing Mr. Vance, Schumer said the Ohio Republican has “done something more extreme, more weird, more erratic” every day since becoming Trump’s running mate. Schumer added that he could imagine how irritated Trump must be, suggesting that the former President was “sitting there scratching his head and wondering, why did I pick this guy?”

Even some Republicans have reportedly raised their eyebrows at Trump’s choice of running mate and privately expressed alarm. Political analysts take a similar view, with many suggesting Trump secretly regrets his decision.

Mr. Vance has been in the limelight since he became the VP Republican candidate, and often for reasons Trump may find embarrassing. Footage of him denouncing senior Democrats as “childless cat ladies,” for instance, quickly resurfaced and spurned an online backlash, particularly from women.

When questioned, the Senator doubled down on his view and said he has nothing against cats, but his central point remains. In other video clips, he is even heard referring to childless voters as “sociopathic.”

His negative view of people without children stretches back some years. For instance, in 2021, he sent an email to potential supporters denouncing “radical childless leaders.” He also stated that childless individuals are “less mentally stable” and the “most deranged” people in society.

In public, former President Trump has not expressed any trepidation about Mr. Vance and has explained away his comments, saying the Senator simply cares deeply about family.
