Bizarre Monolith Discovered on Vegas Trail, Locals Confused

Authorities are unsure how a mysterious metal monolith ended up on a hiking trail near Las Vegas.

If it’s art, installing structures there without proper authority is against the law, as the location is considered federal land. The origins of these mysterious monoliths, which have been popping up all across the globe since November 2020, remain a mystery.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the “thing” was discovered on the famous hiking route last weekend.

There have been other discoveries of strange metal slabs like this one across the globe in the past few years. Around the end of 2020, hundreds of these gigantic structures started emerging throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Romania, and other countries, and then they would mysteriously vanish. Glastonbury, Cornwall, and the Isle of Wight were a few of the locations of the British silver monoliths. A 10-foot monolith was discovered on a Welsh hilltop not long ago, close to Hay-on-Wye.

Hidden in the red-rock desert of Utah, which resembles the surface of Mars, the mysterious metal monolith stood quietly. On Monday, authorities announced that the towering, smooth structure had been discovered during a helicopter survey of bighorn sheep in southwestern Utah. While taking a break from their duties on November 18, a team from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Department of Public Safety saw the shiny object from the sky and decided to land to investigate it. A twelve-foot-tall triangular chunk of stainless steel was found among the rolling red boulders, but no clues as to its possible origins were found.

Building and setting the 10- to 12-foot (3- to 4-meter) monolith into the granite clearly needed a lot of planning and work.

Officials are afraid that individuals will become lost or trapped attempting to identify the specific site, so they are not disclosing its location publicly.
